Before pressing the fret wire into the prepared fret slots it should be cleaned with Naphtha or similar solvent to remove oil. It is then sent thru a Fret Bender to bend the radius to match the fingerboard. Nickel fret wire wants to "spring" when being pressed into the fret slots and it is usually necessary to slightly over radius it. How the heck can I keep from making my fret slots too wide ... I repeatedly make the slots slightly too wide and the fret end will not seat well without making the fret tang wider with fret expanders. Its not that I make it ridiculously wide its just say .023 instead of .020. It is only sometimes not all the time. If it is .020 the fret seats perfectly if its its .023 its loose, at least on the ends. It just feels wrong to me to have a gap of air between the bottom of the fret tang and the bottom of the slot. my slots (nut too) are all the same radius as the fingerboard and do not extend past what is necessary to seat the fret.
The one /u/JewishJay linked to will probably work fine for cleaning slots (I personally wouldn't use it to do brand new slots on a blank fretboard though.)
